I remember reading an article on here about a gorge that was hidden from view but found to contain a whole bunch of cascade style ice climbing. Am I remembering this wrong or does this exist and if so where is it? I've tried googling and searching on here for it but I cannot find it!

I can't remember, all I remember is that it was in Scotland, vague I know! I think it was a fairly recent discovery.

Eilde Canyon, in glen eilde on the way into the sron na lairig...won't be in until low lying icefalls like those at Beinn Udlaidh start to form, usually with several days of freezing at low levels. Awesome place and ambience with some new route potential.

I reckon it is Eilde Canyon that you're thinking of.

If Beinn Udlaidh is in good nick then the canyon usually is.

Take warthogs/bulldogs for belays at the top.

I've been there a day too late for climbing and thought it was one of the most amazing ice venues I've seen in Scotland, the routes are huge and all mega steep. It'd be a mega head game there...

The topo for Elide Canyon is on the Big Tree Campervans page.

It needs a good freeze. As others have said if Beinn Udlaidh is in, its a good chance that Eilde Canyon will be in too.

Fingers crossed... have fun!
