Hi guys, a couple of days ago I received a Petzl Summit Evo ice axe as a present but upon first inspection I noticed small dots on the head and immediately corrosion crossed my mind. Maybe the store where it has been bought sent used product or it was neglected while being in the store. I'm not very experienced so I would be very thankful if someone with more experience can take a look at the pictures and let me know the thoughts. I'm not worried about esthetics, just the functionality and especially longevity of this axe. Should I return this or you think it's a perfectly legit product?

Thank you all,

I wouldn't worry about that at all. You can hardly see anything!

No mterial issues there at all. You can polish it if you want to, but axes get all kinds of stains and tarnishes and rust marks as their patina develops. Just wait for some real wear and tear

Yes, as the others say, there is barely anything there.  As soon as you use it out in the wild, it will go rusty as hell all over the head.  Same as crampons.  But it will all scrape off (and then rust again) as you continue to use it.

Peace to all.

This is a cast product with limited machining to finish. The pits are from the casting process and are simply the small and sized indentations from the mold which haven't been polished out. They are not corrosion.

Thank you for this explanation. Appreciate it.
