Do you need 4X4 to get from Oslo to Ryukan in Feb or will normal car with winter tyres/chains surfice ?

Winter tyres on a regular front wheel drive hatchback did us fine last time.

We were there in February this year and were amazed at what the hire car winter tyres coped with. In a word, everything! Our car was a Citroen 3 and we used Ryanair Torp. There is a steep hill down to and of course back up from Vemork Bridge car park - and many more elsewhere - and I was very impressed with tyres. They handled hard packed road snowice, soft carpark snow and shiny ice with ease. No probs! Still have to be sensible with driving though.
