Thread moved from Destinations to Winter Climbing

Heading to Argyll for a break in a couple of weeks and hoping to give a relative newbie some taste of snow. Is there much in the Corrie? Appreciate that might all change by mid March.

See here for a photo from a couple of days ago: http://glencoeblog.sais.gov.uk/2022/03/dry-for-most-of-the-day/. It has thawed a bit since, but the easy gullies look quite full and should last a while yet.

Thanks. Should’ve realised SAIS would be the place to go.

Yes there is, but 2 days ago it was pretty soft and sugary on the way down Broad Gully, I could see a new layer of about 6 inches on top of the firmer stuff below.

The avalanche forecast was low 2 days in a row and it showed lightly from 0800 to about 1500. Hopefully there will be another dump of snow before you come, but the whole corrie bowl is full and the snow line is about 100m below.

The walk in is around 90 mins.

Thanks. Bought her brand new crampons and an axe just before lockdown and they haven’t been unpacked yet.  Fingers crossed we get a nice spring day.

I was in Scnl yesterday climbing twisting grooves, soft snow with some old ice and Neve underneath. There was a mix of rain and snow showers. Should be able to tick something off with your new axes
