Approx 5 inches of new snow has fallen in Ambleside this evening, I have been out to Low Water Beck which was a bit thin for the solo in the dark but there is some good ice forming and it may be there later in the week. Helvellyn was again the best bet today. The New snow that has fallen will have changed things a bit, bringing more snowed up rock routes into condition.

Dave Birkett has just called by the Epicentre. He was out on Scafell yesterday and found great ice conditions on the Cascade on Shamrock which gave 200m of ice. Dave thinks that the Wasdale Screes Gullys were forming with the furthest right ice route giving what looked like the most ice at the moment.

In a repeat of yesterday we are having a reasonable amount of new snow in Ambleside this evening. This will top up conditions on buttress routes. Paddy Cave was out on Helvellyn today and reports that the exit slopes and snow basin were not holding unstable new snow and that climbing conditions had improved slightly on the weekend with more hoar on the rock through all aspects. Scafell and Gable were sitting in the cloud today so could be worth a look for harder mixed stuff as the week goes on.
