Looking to climb Y Garn via banana gully tomorrow

who’s been out and what’s the snow like?

In reply to Roghanmer:

Deep, soft, unconsolidated drifts at Bwlch Tryfan and South Ridge today.

In reply to Roghanmer:

I’ve been up y Gribin and then across to y Garn this afternoon. A lot of the snow seems to have been moved around by the wind and there is a large cornice across the top of the gully. With it getting warmer tomorrow and possibly some rain I wouldn’t want to go there.

Several good notches already cut through the cornice and snow was quite good. But yes, beginning to melt a bit now.

I climbed it today and conditions were good.

Two solo’s and a father and young daughter met at the bottom and ended up climbing together. There was a couple of deep powder spots about a third of the way up, but other than that it was pretty good, a mixture of hard ice/snow and wind blown accumulations of snow making it a bit deeper in some spots. (Thanks to the guys ahead of us breaking trail).

It did start to rain/sleet on our descent via the ridge so may have an effect on the conditions over night though.
