Alpkit take advantage of the busiest trading week to help more people go nice places and do good things.

Alpkit will be doubling its donation to the Alpkit Foundation for the duration of the Black Friday sales period. All week, 2% of every sale will go towards helping as many people as possible get outdoors, to 'go nice places, do good things' whatever their circumstances.

Alpkit is one of the UK's fastest growing outdoor brands and already contributes 1% of its sales to the Alpkit Foundation, an independent charity which supports a range of community-led projects in the UK and beyond. The Foundation has now awarded over £200,000 to more than 560 projects.

"The simplicity of getting outdoors can often be taken for granted," explains Alpkit founder and Foundation trustee Colin Stocker. "But for some there will always be obstacles preventing them from accessing the benefits – be they physical, mental, circumstance, knowledge, or pressures placed on the environment. By helping to overcome these obstacles we can help more people to get outside and encourage a lifelong love for the outdoors."

The Alpkit Foundation helps a wide range of projects to get off the ground, supporting a truly inspirational group of people to champion causes that further outdoor education, participation, diversity, environmentalism, and general health and wellbeing.

Alpkit Marketing Director, Rob Savin, explains: "we've always been resistant to having a Black Friday sale, partly as we'd much rather be fighting our way to the top of a mountain than fighting our way down the high street. In the end though, we realised that we'd got a fantastic opportunity to turn the biggest retail week of the year into something good by putting a little bit back too. The double donation sale means that our customers get to go out and have fun in the outdoors with some fantastic value kit, and the Foundation benefits with every extra sale."

The Alpkit Black Friday FUNdraiser sale starts on Monday 25th November and finishes on Monday 2nd December.

Examples of Alpkit Foundation Projects include:
Heather Hunt, a former Language and Discovery Officer for our national parks, helps to run the Sheffield Conversation Club, a social space for asylum seekers and refugees to improve their English and meet people similarly isolated in a strange urban environment. Heather applied for the cost of twenty Sheffield-Edale train tickets and twenty ice creams to take her group for a day out in the Peaks – a small of amount of money that made a huge difference.

Using old outdoor gear donated to Alpkit's Continuum project, the Foundation helped to equip the Vulture Club, a Lake District project which supports individuals battling mental ill health and addiction by getting them out into the hills.

Encouraging the next generation by funding: the transport costs of Cumbrian school kids helping to replant Hardknott Forest; family Rockpool Rambles and Pond Dipping in conjunction with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust; and the staffing of BMC Youth Squad climbing events.

Purchasing a lightweight defibrillator to enable the Edale Mountain Rescue to team to get to call-outs quicker.

Buying a tandem trike for the Wheel Potential charity in Cambridge, which helps less able-bodied adults to experience the exhilaration of cycling.
