One of the most exciting projects we have been involved in recently is the North Wales Slate guide. This might come as a surprise, after all, it is only a small area and one that we have covered to an extent before - hardly a Kalymnos, Chamonix or Dolomites! The difference is that this is a comprehensive guidebook that have approached with a long term view to create a sustainable information database enabling us to provide continuous updatable coverage for this area in digital and print format. It is also the first book that we have produced using some new photo techniques combined with the detailed maps that we first introduced in the Chamonix guide of 2016.

The new book contains comprehensive coverage of the slate quarries near Llanberis in North Wales. This includes the major areas of the Dinorwig quarries like Vivian, the Rainbow Slab, Twll Mawr and the vast Australia area. Also covered are the quarries on the south side of Llanberis around Gideon, the Nant Peris quarries, Fachwen and Nantlle Valley. Over 1000 trad and sport routes in total.

The information will be simultaneously released through the Rockfax app. Unlike previous guides, this won't have its own dedicated package but instead will become part of the North Wales Climbs package. Anyone who has previously purchased North Wales Climbs, or the 'Slate Quarries' bundle will get the full North Wales Slate guide as a free upgrade.

The book will be supporting the bolting work required in the quarries to both maintain and develop the area. This will be done by making donations from the proceeds to the North Wales Bolt Fund through UKBoltFund.org

Pre-order now - You can pre-order a copy now at a special offer prices of £22.95 (RRP £29.95). As soon as we get stock in early September, we will send the book out directly. This is the fastest and cheapest way of getting hold of a copy.

Looks superb - love the maps and the drone overviews.

I find the choice of cover a bit odd. I mean, Goose Creature is a lovely route but it's not exactly photogenic or particularly representative of the atmosphere of the quarries.

There's a bit of context surrounding its choice that is worth knowing before you cast judgement.

Simon Lake, the individual in the photograph, was badly hurt during a climbing accident earlier this year. He is the author's best friend, and currently it is unclear as to whether he will climb again, so the cover was done as something of a dedication to him.

May we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Ah. Understood. I wish him all the best.

PS: To the one person that downvoted my post, how could I have possibly known this?

How does the coverage in here compare with GU's guide? In other words, what's the difference?
