Marmot Does...Ultralight Down Jackets

Marmot, 94 kb
Since our inception in 1974, we at Marmot have been globally famous for the world class down products that we manufacture.

Take the ‘Down Sweater’ from 1996 for example. Beautifully simple, no nonsense functionality. Back then it was cutting edge technology. Present day, things are no different, our focus is still on quality, function and technology … we worked on the style lines a little too. Take a look at Marmot’s Ultralight Down offering for this season and why it will work for you…

Mens Quasar Hoody, 97 kb
QUASAR / WMS QUASAR - RRP £220 - £240

We use the highest quality down that is available for the iconic Quasar jacket. The +875 fill power goose down is super packable, not to mention ridiculously light. So light, in fact, it is easy to forget you are wearing any form of jacket at all.

On the outer we took a light but durable Pertex Quantum GL fabric, this gives sufficient weather protection from rain/snow/etc until you can get to shelter or throw on your waterproof over the top.

We love our Quasar jackets on alpine rock faces through the spring. We love them layered with a burly shell on an epic Scottish winter route on ‘the Ben’. We love them for belaying on our winter sun sport trips in Catalunya and we also love them for looking like pro’s at Kendal Mountain Festival.

[Note: Quasar is available as a hoody or jacket for Men and Women]

Marmot Megawatt Jacket (mens), 87 kb

The Megawatt Jacket is an absolute stunner. Boasting a generous filling of +800 fill power goose down on the torso (front and back) and also the hood, it’s warm where you need it most. We coupled the down with Polartec Alpha that runs throughout the jacket, which gives it light, breathable and packable thermal regulation. Double the technology, for double the comfort.

The face fabric is Pertex Microlight for maximum durability and weather resistance. The Megawatt is an athletic fitting garment, so choose your layers wisely: we pair it with a Marmot Thermo Hoody and a base layer too, backed up with a shell in the pack when the weather turns nasty (it always turns nasty).

We love the Megawatt on trips to Patagonia in the winter, for moving quickly on the big walls in sub-zero temperatures. We love the Megawatt for trips to Rjukan when we are running up ice routes like there is no tomorrow. We also love the Megawatt for belaying at the wall, the thumb loops on the cuff lines are just so flipping warm.

[Note: Womens Megawatt launches for Autumn 2015]

Greenland Baffled Jacket, 107 kb
Slightly bigger than you might expect for it to be included in the Ultralight Down category, but when you consider that the Greenland Baffled Jackets is designed to be used in the harshest conditions that mother nature can throw your way, in the most extreme environments you can find, and weighing in at a mere 765 grams … you’ll understand why we didn’t want to leave it out.

We use a polyester ripstop fabric on the outer for maximum durability, its DWR treated too so it’ll keep off the snow as you dig out your bivvy (grim). It has a box wall construction to eliminate cold spots, we know how important that is when you are pushing your physical and mental limits at 7000 metres, and we’ve been there. It has a hood big enough for a helmet, but also fully adjustable so that you don’t lose out on its warmth. The jacket is filled with our best +800 fill down to give you an ultra-cosy piece that will pack into its pocket.

We love the Greenland Baffled jacket for summiting peaks like Shivling - 6543m, and Baruntse - 7129m (for anything bigger we would recommend our brand new 8000m jacket/suit). We love it on polar expeditions when we need maximum warmth and minimum weight. We also love the Greenland Baffled Jacket for wearing while we are spotting our pals as they wing off Careless Torque (again) while we brave the snow on our midwinter Stanage sessions.
