Colca Hiking Gaiter

Waterproof and breathable high-cut gaiters for keeping out the elements and debris when hiking, trekking, and backpacking.

'Come rain or shine'. There's something satisfying about really really meaning it, about waking up in the morning and heading out whatever the weather. The Colca waterproof gaiters were designed to keep you protected from the elements on those wet days out in the hills. They save your regular trousers from getting a soaking or covered in mud, allowing you to cut down on your washing or pack less for a longer trip.

The 3 layer waterproof and breathable upper keeps your legs dry without overheating, with a tough Cordura lower that reinforces against abrasion. A slightly tapered cut gives a slim fit over your boots to avoid snagging.

Front Velcro closure makes the Colca easy to put on and are held comfortably in place by an alloy tension lock top adjustor, a stainless-steel lace hook, and TPU underfoot strap – bar-tacked for durability. All metal components are corrosion resistant, and if you wear through the underfoot strap we can replace it for you, so you can keep racking up the miles.

Kantju Running Gaiter

Stretchy and breathable running gaiters for reducing blisters and hot spots when out on the trail.

Running fast and light is all about getting into a real good flow: keeping things simple, finding your rhythm, and staying with it… Stopping to pick stones out of your shoes doesn't really sit nicely in this picture. Kantju running gaiters keep debris, stones, mud, and other bits of trail out of your shoes to prevent hot spots and blisters without disrupting your flow.

Designed to be comfortable and unobtrusive, an elasticated opening makes them easy to put on whilst the Velcro adjustor, adjustable underfoot cord, and steel lace hook keep them securely in place.

Made in stretch woven ripstop fabric that has a bit of give in it for a comfortable and flexible fit, Kantju are durable, low maintenance and easy to care for (even when you're really knackered after a big day)

FWIW, I wasn't impressed by them because of the fit/breathability. What really got me is that kimble tags (like these: https://imgur.com/a/Zr7p3S0 ) go through the gaiter itself! There's two of them on each gaiter, so they come with 4 tiny holes in total. There doesn't seem to be any ripstop material, so they might be widen over the time if stretched.

That's a weird decision. Is that on the colca or the kantju?

Colca, the supposedly waterproof ones. The holes are tiny as you'd expect, but let's not talk how watertight that area is!

I couldn't get them tight enough to nicely seal up the top anyway. Mountain Equipment Alpine Pro Shell Gaiters (note: ignore the naming - it's plain Gore-Tex and not Gore-Tex Pro - shady!) were even more disappointing actually. The drawcord failed in few months time. I got them in January and they broke on Easter weekend. ME decided to refund instead of repair and I can't wrap my head around why. I think they just glue the drawcord on, so I hoped Alpkit's design is going to be more robust. I am back to Montane Endurance Pro Gaiter, which I know it works, but the old pair had few stitches already due to crappy footwork.

A rather pricey adventure, but at least I am back to something I was happy with before. The £60 RRP tag is a bit too much, but after trying on few more pairs, I know what I am paying for. Maybe I should be more careful with crampons...

Interesting, thanks.

Luckily my old military spec Yetis are still going strong!
