Climbing Technology ? Who are they?

© Climbing Technology
Available in the UK for the first time ever, Climbing Technology has been created by the most important of Italian qualities – passion. With over 20 years of international experience specialising in climbing equipment CT create their huge range in an ultra modern factory to the highest specifications. But where did they come from and how have they created a range so big?

Karabiner dimensions

A click through to www.mountain-works.co.uk will show you the vast range of technical summer and winter climbing gear, caving and safety equipment, Nordic walking accessories, via ferrata sets and great packs & bags made specifically for the sports we love. Urban adventure is NOT a phrase you hear during a CT sales pitch! These guys are very serious about design, development and testing their gear to the max with the entire range either made at their factory in Italy, sourced from within Italy or Made in Europe. All production processes adhere to the high levels you would expect of an ISO 9001:2000 certified company complete with a dynamic R&D department and very busy test laboratory performing on average one rupture test every six minutes!!!!

Now, it is easy to believe that such a slick company with more than 100 staff may be working more towards corporate efficiency than dedicated climbing values but that is just not so – in fact it is still run by and solely owned by the climber and engineer that started the company way back in 1986, Mr Carlo Paglioni. His personal influence can be seen throughout the company where any e-mail, telephone call or meeting is dealt with swiftly, politely and in entirety. In short, Climbing Technology are a pleasure to deal with and as their sole UK agents; Mountain Works strive to pass on that ethos.

Karabiner production

Of course, such an amazing company hasn't just arrived in Italy overnight. The Climbing Technology brand has evolved from the factories' long heritage as one of the world leaders in developing and manufacturing products for other brands in the market place. In 2008 they produced a mere 10 million pieces for both the sport climbing and Work at Height markets which is why the eagle eyed among you may well have been wondering why some items looked a little familiar ...

So what makes the CT range different from the huge choice of climbing gear out there? Well, with over 20 patents there is certainly a lot to talk about!

The most eye catching has to be the Alpico folding ice axe. There was a time when the only thing a mountaineer used to fold was a map and handkerchief but thanks to high performance composite materials and design innovation, Climbing Technology can now offer the ultimate in fast deploying emergency ice tools.

Next up is their range of three Via Ferrata sets with no less than two patents among them and a kit for every budget ranging from £62.50 - £79.00. If you are in the market then make sure you check out the Top Shell set with it's award winning “wear proof” karabiners and neat design.

For those who enjoy life below ground or hauling up looooong routes then the new rapid release system of the Ascender SX & DX will be right up your crack (so to speak). Thanks to the double pivot it is possible to quickly release the cam to go down easily for short stretches. Ideal for SRT or rescue work too.

The Click Up has taken the world of sport climbing by storm and offers a super lightweight belay solution without the moving parts of heavier, more mechanised belay devices. It is simple to use, pocket sized and will hardly make a dent on the weensy baggage allowance offered by budget airlines! If you are a true bolt-head then this is the belay device for you!

If true value for money is what you are searching for then look no further than the unbeatable Ledge Harness which is packed full of features. It is fully adjustable but still comes in a choice of three sizes to make sure that you can get the very best fit to complement the supreme comfort and very wallet friendly price tag of £48!

The winter conditions this year have been so incredible that we've run out of superlatives and the same can be said for the Nuptse 12 point crampon. The Classic (shown) fits a multitude of boots from size 36-46, comes complete with pre-fitted anti-balling plates and its own heavy duty storage bag for £79.00. What more can we say!

Need some flexi-cams that won't break the bank? Then check out the colour coded Anchor Cams with hot forged teeth and super light dyneema slings. Starting from £36 each.

Store your precious rope in style with this brilliant CT rope bag. Choose to carry either by the super comfy rucksack straps or light weight haul loop, keep your rope off the ground using the integral groundsheet and keep easy to lose keys etc in the zippy pocket on the end. All for a mere £18!!!

And that's not even scratching the surface of their vast range of climbing hardware, crampons, ice axes, ice screws, winter safety gear, ropes, caving equipment, rescue gear, via ferrata kits, bolt sets, slings, cams, wires, harnesses, packs, chalk, walking poles, gloves or helmets!!

Climbing Technology is not only a brand that is here to stay but with it's well proven track record for producing the highest quality product and passionate staff who are committed to bringing you the very best in engineering and product development you can be sure that we will be seeing many innovative new products joining the range in the years to come.

I have the non-locking version of the oval krab shown on the first picture, and it's great for racking nuts and pitons. Don't own any of their other gear, though.
