2017 will be our 21st season of delivering high-quality, flexible Scottish Winter Courses tailored to your mountaineering aspirations. With a huge variety of venues accessible from our base on the west coast, we don’t just roll out a set syllabus week in, week out. Our Instructors know the Scottish mountains incredibly well, and their experience extends far beyond the Highlands, with most of them also leading expeditions for Jagged Globe to the Himalaya and other major mountain ranges around the world.

Scotland is a superb training ground for climbers preparing for the Alps and mountaineering in the Greater Ranges. The unique combination of weather and terrain makes for an unparalleled, challenging mountain experience. Our Scottish Winter Courses cover a wide range of instruction, from introductory winter walking to high standard snow, ice and mixed climbing.

Our Scottish Winter Courses are designed to provide you with the skills to venture into the mountains more confidently on your own, tackle a more challenging climbing course, or join an expedition or tough trek. The programme covers a wide range of instruction, from introductory winter walking to high standard snow, ice and mixed climbing.

Glen Coe and Ben Nevis

Our base is strategically located at the foot of Glen Coe, in the Western Highlands. This is the best location in Scotland for reliable mountaineering snow and ice conditions. You will experience a variety of venues, normally including Glen Coe, Ben Nevis, Aonach Mor and the Mamores. Mountaineering conditions can be fickle in Scotland, but year after year, our Instructor Team is able to make the most of the weather and snow, due to the impressive range of climbing on our doorstep. Compared to the Cairngorms in the east, the west coast wins out season after season for good mountaineering days.

High calibre Guides and Instructors

We have a professional, dedicated and experienced Instructor core. They know the west coast extremely well and some of them chose to live there year round. They pride themselves in their flexibility and desire to maximise your time in the mountains. If the weather is good, pack an extra sandwich, as you’ll be making the most of the day. Many of our guides and instructors regularly lead expeditions for us further afield and are able to advise you about your future mountaineering plans.
