Komperdell Trekking Poles Gear News

AS Wimbledon fortnight approaches, it's worth noting that the trekking world owes a nod of thanks to the Murrays and Haleps et al who'll soon be gracing the courts of SW19.

Their need for a tennis-racquet grip that remained 'tacky' - even when wet from sweat - was the inspiration for the compound that most racquet manufacturers now use.

Micro-porous and hydrophilic, its 'grippiness' increases as the moisture level rises, but also ensures the handle stays comfortably cool.

Now Komperdell, the Austrian brand carving a growing niche in the UK pole market, has adapted this tennis-world technology to produce their own TacGrip – a compound which easily out-performs traditional plastic and cork pole grips.

Not only 'tackier', there's also a noticeable improvement in comfort levels on day-long hikes – meaning the poles never become an annoying hindrance as the miles tick by. As any trekker will tell you: 'A pole is only as good as its grip – if you don't like it, you won't use it.'

TacGrip features on three Komperdell poles – the Carbon Expedition Tour (£149.95), Hikemaster Powerlock (£79.95) and Wild Rambler (£39.95).

The Carbon Expedition Tour is one of the brand's flagship models, manufactured using Komperdell's own carbon-weaving facility, and incorporating Titanal and Rocksleeve (a protector for the pole's lower section) for ultimate strength and durability.

With two lengths available – 120-145cm, and the compact version's 105-125cm (pictured above) – they fold down to a highly-packable 46 and 41cm respectively. In addition to tungsten-carbide tips and ice-flex baskets, the Carbon Expedition Tour also features Komperdell's 3.0 Powerlock system, guaranteeing complete confidence while on the trail.

Talking of trail confidence, the Hikemaster's two versions – full length 105-140cm, and compact 90-120cm (pictured below) – also feature tungsten-carbide tips, padded straps and trekking baskets, in addition to Komperdell's renowned aluminium shafts.

With this in mind, Komperdell offer a unique confidence-boosting 3-Year "No-Questions-Asked" warranty on the Carbon Expedition, Hike Master and indeed all their telescopic poles.
