The Peak Climbing Wall is an excellent facility for climbers living in the Stirling area. The wall is situated just inside the main entrance of The Peak Sports Centre and the glass frontage allows passers-by to watch climbers at play. The Wall is 11 metres high and has 20 panels, each panel containing 2 or 3 routes. The panels are quite highly featured with edges, pockets and cracks. Routes are a mixture of top roped, lead and auto belayed. There is no bouldering area. In general the routes are very well set, using a variety of hold types. The recent addition of routes using Stonesmith holds has proved popular. There is regular route-setting to refresh the wall. The grade range focuses mostly on the ever popular F6 grades, but there are a reasonable number of easier routes, and a few F7 challenges. The are only two main drawbacks; firstly, that the wall is a victim of its own success and can be very busy on midweek evenings, especially if the youth climbing group The Spiders are in attendance; and secondly, that there is no steep overhanging terrain. These failings are more than compensated for by the welcoming ambiance and the great value for money for those taking out Peak membership.
