I have been a member of Swaledale Outdoor Club for 5 years (climbing section) and find it friendly, open and very supportive to newcomers of whatever ability. I went to a mountain biking meet for the first time a few weeks ago and found exactly the same attitude. Incidentally they do not meet except on the crags so no time wasting in the pub unlike some clubs!

I've been a member of the Swaledale Outdoor Club for the last 5 years and think the concept is excellent. You can join say for the climbing but can also borrow club equipment to try out other outdoor pursuits. Excellent club.

This is the best outdoor pursuits club in the North East of England. A fundamental concept of its culture is that it is open to all people regardless of ability. There is a strong attitude of open-ness and acceptance of anyone who is interested in developing an interest in a variety of outdoor pursuits. There are several very active sections in the club covering activities such as climbing, ski-ing, canoeing, walking, running, mountain biking, caving and orienteering. If you really want to enjoy these activities in an atmosphere of positive support and encouragement, then join this club.
