βeta: Climbed to 3/4 of the way up to assess the lichen situation. The lichen assemblage here is incredibly diverse and appears to have greater range of species than anywhere else on the moor. Many of them are unusual in lowland environments. The top is being reclaimed by Parmelia and Ochrolechia, and while climbable in dry conditions, great care should be taken with rope drag to avoid knocking anything off. I spotted the nationally scarce Cladonia callosa (need to confirm with tests) on the bottom half of the route, and other rare species are also present so if you do choose to climb here watch your step! | βeta? | |
