βeta: Ground conditions were boggy with snow on top up to 600m and then frozen above that. Temperature was -4 during the night but felt like -14 with windchill. Winds were gusting throughout the night but settled by the morning. Next day, weather was a mix of sun and cloud with a period of whiteout conditions on the summit for about 30mins before clearing. Lots of overflow ice on steps so ice axe and crampons were required. First outing for my new axe, DMM Spire Tech 55cm. As I descended, the weather changed. Cloud level dropped to about 620m and then started snowing heavily. | βeta? | |
