Rockfax Description
A wandering sport route that makes it way all the way to the top of this side of Australia. The top of the first pitch has a lot of loose rock and is best avoided by starting from The Sidings.
1) 6a, 18m. This is the old first pitch which is now best avoided.
2) 5a, 12m. Move out right is a great position and climb to the level above - Grand Day Out Pitch 2.
3) 6a+, 16m. Move over good flakes to a groove. Make a technical move leftwards to gain the base of the next groove and head on up this to the next level - the route Harder than it Looks.
4) 6b+, 10m. The rusty streak to the right is climbed past five bolts - Feeling Rusty.
5) 6a, 30m. To the right of a shattered pillar leaning against the crag is a large cleaned slab - Plastic Soldiers. © Rockfax

Led p2&4. Quality adventure and excellent finishing route, (just before the rain came).

Started with Looning the Tube as P1, quite a hot day..frign feet hurt, not a slate fan in hot weather m8 !!!

P1 was tough and poorly bolted. I actually preplaced a long QuickDraw on the 2nd bolt by leaning out from the flake edge. What a cheat! Thoroughly enjoyed the day.

with Geoff Thomas
JonesE 05/Jan/17 AltLd O/S

Led first P1 and P2 as one. Also led P4 and P5. Climbed Clash of the Titans as the last pitch by accident and only had 13 quickdraws which made the top section a bit more exciting.

Odd Pitches. Top of P2 has had belay bolt hangers removed. P4 Rusty pitch was scary or hard, got up P1 fine aswell. I'd try to find another way up on that level. Run out chossy hell or god knows; technique ;), on the bolt line above #3 & I had a pull or two from above... Treat the whole route with an 'adventure' head. Mind your head, fingers, rope, toes #debris ;). Plastic Soliders is a great finish, lots to do up there...

I led the easiest pitch 2, f5a. Good climbing, delicate and what you'd expect from slate. Bit of loose rock came flying down on me hurting my elbow and landing on my helmet reminding me to always have one on! We did it pretty quickly due to my amazing rope skills, leaving us lots of time to kill doing other exciting things!

George_Surf 08/Jul/16 AltLd O/S

I led p1, 3, 4, 5. Crux on p1 was thin but everything fine apart from that. Plastic soldier was a nice route, long! Loose scree on p1 belay sent rocks down on to Rachel

harold walmsley 03/Jul/16 Lead O/S

Led all except p2. Pre-clipped 2nd bolt on p1. All pitches except Plastic Soldier seemed hard for grade. Plastic Soldier seemed easier than Rack and Pin and Polar Express that we did as warm ups before abbing in to do p1. Shame about the spiteful bolting on p1.

Me 1.3.5 kc 2.and 4. Slipped off start 3 times till I found footholds that I could make work... would not want to drop clipping the 2rd bolt. The best pitch is the last one. So make sure you work it so u get to lead it. Hahah.

birks3746 28/May/16 Lead O/S

7hrs traffic jam filled journey so no time for a warm up! Led everything. P1 is good but did not enjoy the belay, very very loose rock at the stance. Dont let the rope lie in the groove or rock will hit your 2nd. P4 is fun but loose above. P5 is one of the best 6A's I've ever done, absolutely stunning

On a freezing cold day... 2nd p1 (cheated by going off route on the crux which felt hard with numb fingers and toes), second p2, led p3 & 4, second p5.

Lead P2, P1 was balls hard!

Jack93 11/Aug/15 AltLd O/S

Led all of the pitches except P2.

Sam2257 08/Aug/15 Lead dog

Fun but very imbalanced, 1st pitch poorly bolted with very hard and unprotected crux to 2nd bolt. last move on 4th pitch would be almost impossible for the short too, but made up for by long fun last pitch

Two previous attempts foiled by poor weather or slow parties. Slightly damp in places. Tricky moves to 2nd bolt on P1 can be made safe with a bit of cunning.

Did pitches 1,3,5 but did slip off 1st pitch twice which is very technical and hard for 6b,would easely put a + on it.Excellent link up route from bottom to top.
