Start from the footpath gate on Hangingstone Road (SE 125470). Gain the beck by going straight ahead (once near the water it is worth doubling back to explore the impressive 1902 bridge under the road).

Follow the beck past pools and boulders until the wooden bridge is reached. The next landmark is the newly carved Beckstone. After this there are several exciting rock steps to negotiate. The finale of this section is a climb up the moss covered waterfall (which could be avoided by scrambing up to the left) - the reward for this is a fine rock carving of the spirit of the beck.

The beck goes on to the crossing on the Rocky Valley / Cow and Calf path. Beyond this there is an interesting engineered water course. The beck can be followed on in a jungle explorer style, but the scrambling ends here.

Traditional.
