110m, 3 pitches.

Rockfax Description
110m.One of the great classic ice routes of the Lakes. The crux is gain the hanging gully in the south east face of the crag. Start at the same place as South Gully. 1) 5, 30m. Climb the a ramp right (pegs), then step back left onto the icefall which is climbed steeply into the bed of th gully. Belay on the right. 2) 5, 40m. Make steep moves around the chockstone on the right then another chockstone to easier ground and a cave belay. 3) 10m.Out left to easier ground. © Rockfax

Ice was scary with freezing level rising and temperature plus four. Brilliant route but with high day temperatures the ice sheet on pitch one will be gone soon.

Ice was not fully formed from base of route up into the gully. Probably made the route a little harder. Not much gear and first peg must have been placed by a giant. Brittle ice made the first pitch was quite scary. Abbed off dodgy peg and let Ed lead us up. Once into the gully the route keeps entertaining. Brilliant route!

Thin. Hard.

Climbed in full on sunshine, blue sky, no wind - is this a first?! The initial ice pitch included a Damoclean style icicle that required care. The chockstone pitch was a doddle by comparison.

Left at the chock stone seems to be more sensible.

Did the same day as Chock Gully. Felt it was very easy - only took an hour for the whole route.
