John McKenna 27 Jul Lead O/S Taking a mate up. Was glorious walking in, but just a bit of a shame that cloud came in on our ascent, taking away the feeling of exposure. Definitely best saved for a good day. It's an awful long walk in for such a short (but high-quality) route. But the entire area/experience makes it an amazing day out in the hills!

Lovely climbing, great chunk of rock perched high up in a wonderfully remote position. This was our 2nd attempt at it as weather was bad previously, almost on the verge of being the same... Camped below 'the Sneck' made for a brilliant camp spot, although that 1/2 season bag was pretty poor keeping out the freezing night temperatures...

Stunning starry night according to Sarah: I missed it because I was happily snoring off our whisky; she saw it because she was being kept awake! Finished by nipping over to Ben Avon in the sunshine, and then home via the Howff and the Braemar chip shop. Fantastic trip.

Simon Caldwell 31 May, 2014 AltLd O/S I led P1 and P3. The approach was the crux, traversing loose ground under threatening cornices, then crossing a final snow gully, where C was hit by ice fall. As we were climbing, a huge lump of rock fell down the face crossing our traverse line. Scary stuff. The route itself was excellent, though perhaps not 4-star excellent (C-C Route was better). Anyone know why the latest SMC guidebook describes the 2nd pitch as climbing to the right of the crack, rather than up it?

hcooper 30 Apr, 2011 Lead Biked in from the Braemar-side and camped on the north-side of the Sneck. Set off next morning and found a steep frozen snow gulley still in place at the very foot of Squareface. Required carrying a rock to smash steps as I crossed at the narrowest part on lead! Other than that a lovely sunny day on a great route. The freshly sharpened granite meant I ended up with blood-covered hands by the end, which added to the dramatic effect! Bagged Beinn a Bhuird North Top on the way off. VDiff climbing, with a VS atmosphere!

Jayney D 23 May, 2007 AltLd The best every self planned Girly adventure so far. I've been wanting to do this route for nearly 20 years! We had the grid referrence for a secret bothy so we set off from the Braemare side, on the bikes yet again, with climbing gear and bivvy stuff up to the bothy. What a find. Its was like being in a little hobbit hole. Brilliant. After exploring then eating our meagre rashions and we settled down for the night and after much gigling and cursing because of the resident mouse, we slept. Only to wake to low cloud and drizzle. Gutted. We decided we had come all this way so we would go and have a look a the crag anyway. as we got closer to the coll the weather cleared and secretly we all harboured the thought that we might still climb the route yet. After dropping down into the Corrie we searched for the crag, finding it was amazing. After much discussion about the start, there was still a big bank of snow blocking the way to the start of the climb proper, we set off. Alt leads and soon on the top taking celebratory photo's. What a fantastic route. Once back at the bothy we packed up and headed back to the bikes, to be met by another group looking for the bothy only they had walked!! Once on the bikes we just free wheeled all the way back to the car, SMUG was the word of the day. Fantastic 2 days and what and adventure. I've had many mountain adventures but this was a great achievement because we had planned it without the interfernce of 'the blokes!' I want to go back and do the route again along with the other classic Mitre Ridge.
