Left car park about 0830. Started scrambling up towards Corrie at 1030ish. Topped out at 1930. Back at car after midnight. Pitched whole way. Spent too long trying to find gear, most of which of marginal quality. Overhang at bottom not banked out. Should probably have used ice step to left, rather than taking it more direct. Snow good and overall majority of climbing straight forward and secure. Took technical step/gulley to the left near top, before having to traverse much further right to exit, than I’d expected. Few very gratefully received spikes provided security in gulley and on traverse right. My calves out of shape for being on ground like that for so long. More Autumn hill walking required this year ! Sam’s first Winter climb.

A bit soft and thin in places but climbable. Varying snow conditions on route. Start was not banked out so a short, steep ice step was negotiated. I got to lead the hard pitches for some reason. Needed to bring more than two ice screws. Lovely weather mind, treated to a lovely view and sunset on topping out. Good day.

Turned into an epic, left snowhole below the Castle Ridge area to late at 11am and got back 4:15am. Couldn't find the "Final steep wall" ended up doing a pitch in the wrong direction, eventually found it but decided we should make a retreat duty to time and we are exhausted. Amazing day and night out though.

Better snow conditions than I had expected, spicy wee ice step near the top.

Quite thin. Accessed the buttress from an easy ramp traverse approx 20-30m up South Castle Gully. Chimney higher up proved technical... and fun.

Gained ridge just below the meeting of the castle gullies, after crossing recent avalanch debris. Avalanches continued to fall all day from snow field high up near Ledge Route top out. Snow very soft, hindering climbing and requiring us to use a rope from the start. Slabs before crux proved very difficult, probably easier if we had crampons on. Crux itself is easy yet wonderfully exposed. Ground above does not ease as guide book suggests, so took us another 4 pitches to top out, the final two of these being in the dark. About 12 hours in total on the route, with 10 pitches and one toilet stop (not me). Part of a very long day where we left the car at 5am on Wed, only to return 5:40am on Thurs. Now that's what I call an epic!
