Rockfax Description
The thin quartz line in the face to the left of the arete provides the striking line of this route.
Step onto the face and climb the quartz line to a very shallow niche. Above, a slight line of weakness leads right to a ledge and easier climbing up cracks to the top. © Rockfax

Donesy 22 Aug, 2019 TR O/S ab'd in with every intention of leading it but the gear looked terrible, the holds pretty small and very sustained, so We put the shunt on the ab' rope as backup and went ahead with a 'dress-rehearsal' type lead. On belay from the bottom and the shunt from the top, placing gear as often as possible. The idea was to come off the shunt once some bomber gear was in but I pretty much forgot once I was up and running. The climbing was actually way friendlier than expected and really enjoyable, with good secure rests between each sequence. There were an edequate number of gear placements however none of them would take anything more than a small nut or a micro and getting them seated bomber is all but impossible. The first good cam comes in the niche which looks a long way up from the bottom. A truly great route if your 100% sure you can climb any 5A or are happy to take a dive onto less than ideal gear. I wish I'd lead it without the shunt now, getting up to the Niche would have a been a great experience. But hindsight is always 20-20 and it's really easy to be brave in the pub afterwards.
