Split the first pitch into two. Hugh had the crux on the first pitch which was less hooked out. Everything much more hooked out after. Leading the Rogue pitch and others blind in spindrift Made for a memorable day together with the fact we had the route and the summit to ourselves. Weather was good and only saw 2 other parties in observatory gully the entire day (bank holiday as well)...

In 4 pitches then moved together to the top. After the first initial steep bit it is very hooked at stepped out. Some pretty intense spin drift at times, made for a full Scottish experience! Led P1 & 3.

This one was truly stunning. Second team on the route, and just following a freeze-thaw, so wasn't stepped out- which was nice. I led the first three pitches- P1 a nice warm-up, P2 the technical crux with a steep wall of immaculate blue ice followed by some cruddy stuff at the narrows, the third (rogue) pitch had tons of spindrift that kept us waiting, head bowed for minutes on end! Aidan led the upper half, before I led on through a sugary cornice. Perversely enjoyable and one that'll live long in the memory.

A stunning day to be out in the mountains. Third party on the route (should have got up earlier) but it didn't really matter as there wasn't much coming down and it was a day to prolong rather than get over quickly. Three pitches and then simul-climbed to the top, breaking out right to the small gap in the cornice. Soft touch on the day as well stepped out and plastic ice for those first time placements.

It's a great climb, and it was in great conditions. Good screw protection. Most in-situ gear is iced over, only the tad and pitons on the second belay (under the Rogue Pitch) is visible. There are ice screw belays even on the upper, easier sections. The cornice was a little sketchy, we avoided it on the right side. We saw only one team coming after us. We also saw teams on Hadrian's Wall and on Zero Gully

Blue sky day, ice in good condition, snow in the upper gully was unconsolidated powder but thankfully well stepped out thanks to the previous ascents. Edit; Having read comments from other ascents today, just to clarify, all insitu belays and insitu gear is clear to see. Nothing is buried (spoiler alert) except the bomber crack belay on the right after the 3rd pitch. Good ice screw belays are available for the next 100m (3 pitches will work best) then a final 80m of protection less grade 1 to the top, avoid cornice on the right as usual.

Second climb. A bit spooky crossing avalanche debris field and steep approach. First two pitches went okay seconding. So much so i got psyched and when asked if i wanted to lead 3rd pitch replied "Let's have it!" ... managed to get to top of the pitch where the angle changes, ice turned to snow and I cant climb snow. My foot step collapsed, axes pulled (I shouted "oh no!" and I fell from the top of the pitch back to the belay. 15 meters? 1 screw blew out and the one that actually caught me was only partially in before it had hit rock. Landed upside down on my back (pack cushioned the impact) I dropped both my axes but they were tangled in belay so didn't lose them. Fairly uninjured. Lots of giggling. Had fallen close enough to the belay that Ed passed axes back to me. Rest of the route was fairly uneventful and made it back to track with the dregs of daylight.

P2,4,6 Done in 7 pitches in a long day from Glasgow. Nobody else on the route. First three pitches awesome fun. Final three pitches of unprotected snowplodding took longer than the technical stuff. Bypassing cornice was interesting - Lawrie reckoned V,3 for that pitch! Fat, easy nick with hooks and steps everywhere, but still steep - lower end tech 5? Definitely V overall.

A bit underwhelmed really - it's a good route but wouldn't say it's an all-time classic, though to be fair it would have been much better and harder if it hadn't been so stepped out. Could largely find own axe placements but hard to avoid the buckets for the feet! Left car park at 6.30, started climbing shortly after 10, topped out shortly after 6. Effectively soloed P1 (we all started soloing, then Su thought better of it, so Phil brought her up to a screw belay half way up the pitch while I carried on to the first proper belay and brought them both up), then led the rogue pitch (lucky to finish it before the spindrift river started pouring down, Phil and Su go plastered) and the second and last of the four easy finishing pitches. Very poor viz on the summit but not too hard to follow footprints, carns and compass down to the zigzags. A memorable 16 hour day (and birthday for Su), probably my longest ever day out. This was on Monday - the rest of the week was a write off due to heavy snow and strong winds so headed back on Wednesday.

Karlos 07/Mar/11 AltLd O/S

Led P1, taking the shallower left hand side. Mark took P2, tight chimney was pretty steep. Led P3 which was only steep for a move or two. Ice was well stepped out which lowered the grade quite a bit. In the upper we pitched it and moved together as required. Good route, certainly not intimidating as it's reputation (in my head at least) suggests.

philhilo 07/Mar/11 AltLd O/S

Completely stepped out. Only very short hard sections and could have done them without axes and crampons! Excellent effort from Su, no problems on only her 5th winter route and did most of 1st pitch unroped. Lead p2 , mostly snow ice, great for placements but poor for gear but not required with number of pegs and state of route. Much spindrift - where did the route go? Split 4 pitches of grade 2 to finish. Topped out at 6, poor visibility and going dark so took the tourist path back to Ft W. Long day, back at 22.20 - 16 hours.

Truly awesome! I've been waiting a while to do Point Five, and was worried it had been over-hyped, pleased to find this wasn't the case. Suprisingly easy climbing in current state, I'd say it is V,4 at the moment, moves on Taxus (Icicle Finish IV,4) were harder last weekend. The Rogue pitch wasn't very rogue, the crux seemed to be a short bulge on P1, protectable and easy to blast through. Very straight forward climbing overall due to nice snow ice, lack of water ice means pro is sparse though. Couple of pieces per pitch on average. No belays on the last 150m, but happily moved togeather, cornice sufficiently hacked! Started at 0800, topped out at 1200 above a cloud inversion, absolutely stunning.

First Scottish grade V for both of us. The condition was good, if a bit snowy, while the weather was poor with loads of spindrift avalanches. When it was culminated I was leading The Rogue Pitch... I could not see well either with or without goggles, so decided not to bother placing screws but blasted through the crux several metres, and so did I. The temperature being about freezing, as well as continuous snow fall (and rain in low-down), every single gear was terribly iced up to the extent I had never experienced before.
