Rockfax Description
The left-to-right rising ramp-line under the West Buttress of Clogwyn d'ur Arddu suffered a major rockfall many years ago and is still loose in places. The scrambling is never desperate and it is best enjoyed by the puerile ticker or those with a real sense of adventure in dry conditions.
1) Gain the start of the terrace, a little to the right of its true start, via a short scramble up a groove. Continue up the mossy and damp terrace, which feels a little unnerving until the rock starts to overhang above. The bare rock runnels ahead have some loose rock to contend with - care is needed if parties are rock climbing below you.
2) A pocketed wall that eventually blocks your way offers plenty of jugs and protection to help you gain the rock slabs beyond. Ascend the slab to more perched blocks ahead. Navigate these carefully until you can escape to some grass to the right. A final easy-angled slab leads onto a steep grass exit to the main ridge.
3) Follow the Snowdon Ranger Path to The Llanberis Path and then the summit.
Descent - Head down The Llanberis Path. If you approached from the Pass then descend The Llanberis Path to about 200m past the finger stone marking the top of The PYG Track to an old ruined building (the Stables). From here, contour around and rightwards to pick up the top of Gryn Las Ridge. Descend this, or the walking descent into Cwm Glas, and back to Llanberis Pass. © Rockfax
