Please refrain from climbing outside

Due to the ongoing spread of Covid-19, please abstain from climbing outside.

At UKC we are all climbers and we understand the strong urge to be outdoors as the weather is finally improving, but we feel this is no longer socially acceptable. You can read our statement here.

We have suspended the UKC Logbooks Top Ascents and Conditions pages and we will no longer accept ascents dated from 23rd March onwards. You can still upload your historic ascents.

caradoc 22 Apr, 2019 Lead O/S Despite the rocky appearance of The Pillar there is a huge amount of moss and lichen on this route but fortunately it was dry on the occasion we climbed, I think it would have been very worrying in the wet. The rock is covered in lichen and even in dry conditions it felt slippery as well as dirty. The move up the wide crack is extremely awkward although the move up the steep wall didn’t feel particularly hard. The descent, via two abseils is easier than it looks and gives an insight into the flaky world of the Elidir Pillar. An adventure.

tk4210 18 Jun, 2016 2nd O/S Dark damp and dreary. Not much fun. Even hard for Joe. Wet and very vegetated. Hard start and generally unpleasant. Got to the fin of rock and we decided to ab off. Can't see myself coming back.
