Rockfax Description
A good route loosely based on the broken central rib of rock.
1) 28m. Climb blocky ground to gain a crack. Follow this and move left to gain the rib. Climb the rib, various belays possible.
2) 15m. Follow the broken rib until a ledge is reached below the final steep wall.
3) 4b, 32m. Climb the rib to gain a leftward traverse on a narrow ledge. From here climb the difficult groove above and exit leftwards. © Rockfax

I backed off the first pitch and let Dave lead all 3 pitches. I nearly didnt get up the last pitch - well done Dave

top pitch was very mossy open corner looked unclimbed in over a year, so made an alternate. chose an alternate finish out left, from below the corner. precarious blind step, onto a layback with delicate feet up a blank face, 3/4 moves to big bolder at the top. Very worthwhile and highly memorable. I would grade that HVS 5a be interested to see how others would grade it, if trying the same variation.

3rd pitch was very greasy and not easy needs to be dry and sunny for a few days to dry off!

Nice route. We found it clean, dry and solid, and didn't struggle to find gear. Yes, the final blank corner is not reflected in the grade, so watch out.

Ian Archer 09/Jul/13 2nd O/S

Clean, excellent friction. Top pitch not easy and needs to be dry.

Loose rock, muddy cracks, sparse gear, and not 4a at the top. Lead the 2nd - nicest bit.

Don't think the fierce crack (5b?) at the top of the last pitch is the finish that's described, I suspect the easier angled groove to it's right is. That looks a bit bolder though (especially if belayed immediately under it like we were), and still not easy looking. There is a tenuous alternative out left too. I opted for the crack but ended up frigging it.

Pitch two simply brilliant. Too much vegatation on first pitch. Top pitch is a struggle. Spotlessly clean shoes essential. Feels much harder than HS 4a. More like VS 5b.

Final pitch is good, but tough, and well undergraded. More like 5a? Led Ps 1 & 3.

Rosie Henstock 17/Oct/09 Lead O/S

Didn't fancy the last 5m of the last pitch so got a top rope chucked down. Found it wet even though the rest of the route was dry and the useful crack was filled with mud (so not so useful)! Loved the exposure on the middle pitch. Really fun!

Top pitch in very poor condition, green and greasy as some previous climbers probably agreed due to the amount of gear we found up there. We thought we'd come across a stash but then had to use it to ab off!
