Climbs 30
Rocktype Basalt
Altitude 447m a.s.l
South face of the Plateau des Orgue and extensive climbing routes beneath the viewpoint. 30 routes. Basalt columns. All Bolted.
There is a sign at the bottom of the climbs with all of the crag names, French Grades & heights etc.
Some really nice bolted routes on the inside of the 'organs'.
Park at the car park by the viewpoint at the top, and follow the pathway to the right all the way down on to the road (seems an endless path that takes you away from the crags!) once on the road turn left and watch out for a set of small steps on the left leading to the bottom of the climbs. There arent many sign posts.. but there are a few blue arrows along the way down from the car park. When you reach the steps there is a sign which says 'Grotte' which means Caves.
I haven't been to this crag but it appears to be shown on the map above about 200km south of its real location (as shown on Google Maps). That is assuming there isn't another Bort les Orgues. I wouldn't expect basalt/dolerite around Rodez, but it would be likely around Clermont-Ferrand, so this supports the above comment. Rog Wilko - 28/Aug/12 |
