Crag features

A watercourse (Black Sike/Black Ark) forms a waterfall where it comes over the Whin Sill (Dolerite) and down to limestone below. When frozen and with sufficient ice it may be climbed at grade II/III in one or two pitches. A fence crosses the burn at the top. Descent by turning L adjacent to fence.

Approach notes

The site is an SSSI and within the Moorhouse - Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve. Great care should be taken not to damage plants or anything else, especially if you need to descend in crampons.

Restricted Access

In winterNatural England have been known to place a notice stating "No climbing as it damages the SSSI". No access problems have been reported.
