A watercourse (Black Sike/Black Ark) forms a waterfall where it comes over the Whin Sill (Dolerite) and down to limestone below. When frozen and with sufficient ice it may be climbed at grade II/III in one or two pitches. A fence crosses the burn at the top. Descent by turning L adjacent to fence.
The site is an SSSI and within the Moorhouse - Upper Teesdale National Nature Reserve. Great care should be taken not to damage plants or anything else, especially if you need to descend in crampons.
