Climbs 1
Rocktype Sandstone (hard)
A 50m sea stack near The Chasms, SW Isle of Man.
By boat from Port St Mary
This approach should only be made be experienced and well equipped climbers.
Approach from the Chasms carpark, skirting the Chasms to the left and walk down to the headland opposite the Sugar Loaf Sea Stack.
Descend carefully down a steep grassy gully and traverse right (i.e. when facing the Sugar Loaf). Abseil down to the Pulpit (large, flat platform - can be seen from the Chasms).
From the Pulpit abseil down and pendulum across to the base of the Sugar Loaf.
Walk round to the seaward side of the stack and climb the chimney between the two summits.
With the correct length of rope this can be climbed in one pitch.
The Western summit is the highest one but space is limited so care should be taken when leading this (usually each climber leads this).
Escaping - abseil down to the ledges at the base of the sea stack and then Tyrolean traverse back to the headland - and climb back to the pulpit and then climb back up to the starting point and then retrace route back up through the grassy gully.
