Elpida Boulders Topo P1 of 3 © maximillian

Crag features

Extensive area of boulders and small outcrops scattered across the hillside above northern Thessaloniki.

Rock is generally sound, but there are some loose blocks. Landings usually good. I've listed a selection of problems I got round to recording, but there are many more, especially if you have pads and like highball!

You can find a Topo guide in the photos for this crag.

Most problems are low V grade and area is good for beginners as there are many low boulders, positive holds, easy topouts and descents.

Boulders are obviousl when driving along the A2 and A25 (ring road) motorways, but I saw no chalk or the usual climbing detritus (tape etc) and there were loose holds on obvious good problems. I did find an old peg stub and metal stake on the 'the hare' crag. Maybe Thessaloniki bouldering wall has a guide? I never got round to asking and could find no info online.

A good place to spend an afternoon or two if you find yourself in Thessaloniki with your shoes. Have fun and send updates :-)

Approach notes

Park at warehouse off A2 Lagdya turnoff.

Also possible to approach from the minor road parallel to A25 (best for the hare amd the turtle).

Tracks on the mountain are intermittent goat tracks. Follow your nose and use pylons as landmarks. See attached photos for GPS coordinates of boulders and Topo.

Watch out for pack of big angry wild dogs near allotments and pidgeon coops near cement works.

No Access Issues

Ownership unknown. You can freely access the rocks without crossing fences and Greeks I spoke to said this meant access was ok.

Shepherds are always close by but friendly and likely to watch with interest!
