Crag features

SW facing limestone quarry on the other side of the main road from Stanhope Dean. The routes tend to be longer and generally harder than the dene.

Be aware of occasional rockfall from above!

Approach notes

Please do not park anywhere along the dene road. Park in Stanhope and walk up Church Lane to the right of the church. Turn left at the top. There is a small public footpath to the left of the Methodist Chapel heading North and uphill. Follow this through the gate and continue to the 2 bridges. The quarry is off to the left.

Here's an update I received to day: Was just letting you know the farmer came over today and wasn't happy about me being there at all. I hadn't even started climbing yet, but he came down on his motorbike and asked if I was deliberately being a cheeky twxx or not, in regards to climbing here. I was polite to him and said we'd clear off asap. But he kept going on about how he is just going to start calling the police on anyone climbing there and they'd take our gear of us, haven't a clue if he could actually got our stuff taken of us but either way, not a happy chappy. I asked why he wasn't happy about me climbing and if there was any way of working something out" he responded with "I payed £400,000 for this land, so if you wanted to climb here you can pay £400,000 and be my guest. But if you don't then there's no chance of being allowed to ever".

Beautiful day in the sunshine yesterday. Shield Wall is mostly dry, as is Bat Buttress. Other routes are drying out nicely.

A massive thunder storm has affected some routes. A lot are now much cleaner however a few need a clean to remove the debris on the holds.
