Fantastic little crag, excellent for cooler temperatures. In the shade only in the morning (until roughly 11 in the summer) but usually cool wind. Big shaded tree in the middle for non climbers. Little bit of a hassle to get there but totally worth it for a day's or more adventure. Nice moderate routes, good for the novice and experience alike. Sometimes chossy but excellently bolted. You will need to clean the anchors as not all routes have carabiners.
9 routes currently (22/06/2020) from 5b to 6c. Most of them long and enjoyable. Wear a helmet!

It is also possible to approach from the village of Galataria driving on good quality tarmac and then only 850m of smooth track, which is in good condition (March 2023). From Galataria look for a sign to Church Agios Nikolaos. The road drops steeply down into the valley below until you pass the superb little church, which is to the left of the road. Continue for 500m where the road bends to the right and go straight on, on a smooth track to the crag. Both the church and the crag are marked on Google maps
The blurb at the beginning is misleading - this is not a good sector for the novice. There is only one route in the 5s, and there's no point on it on which you'd want to fall. The rock generally requires care and judgement in terms what to pull on and how, and what to avoid. The routes also tend to feel "adventurous" for sport routes. It's a nice sector, and has much going for it, but for novices it isn't. Andy Gamisou - 18/Apr/22 |
