Crag features

A huge area of scenic chalk cliffs.
This whole cliff face has no real protection and any meaningful abseil anchors take hundreds of metres of static rope to set up way back.
The bottom 3rd is pretty stable with the rock weathered by the sea to resemble sea cliff limestone. Then it turns into pretty unstable material above. Some areas are incredibly dangerous and some not as bad as you might think.
The rock features provide hardly any trad protection. Top ropes would be dangerous to dislodge material onto the climber and it would be damaging to the vegetation.
Needless to say, great care is required.

Approach notes

Parking at North Landing, Selwicks Bay and South landing.
Plenty of Coastal paths to anywhere you want to go.
Most areas ar abseil in, with abseil anchors a long way back sometimes. Take plenty of rope.

Rachel Riddell ( Rachel.Riddell@eastriding.gov.uk ) the Project Officer for the Flamborough Head European Marine Site, gave the following advice,

Please see the following points for things to consider:

- Whilst the seabird breeding season is March to the end of August, it is worth noting that there are some resident birds that remain at Flamborough throughout the winter months, many species of seabird are sensitive to disturbance so we would advise avoiding routes where there are seabirds nesting nearby.

- I would strongly advise avoiding the area altogether during the breeding season, as this is when seabirds are especially sensitive to disturbance.  Birds who are disturbed will often leave their nest, leaving chicks and eggs vulnerable.

- The vegetated sea cliffs are protected under the SSSI and the SAC, with activities that risk trampling this vegetation, we would advise that routes are carefully considered to avoid any damage to this feature.

- We would also discourage the placing of fixed protection into the cliff face, for example expansion/resin bolts, pegs or belay stakes.
