College Rock is a pleasant, 200-foot-long west-facing crag that rises up out of the ground at the north end, reaches a bit over 35 feet at its highest, and then it sinks back down into the ground at the south end, with top access easily achieved from either end. Most of the crag is between 25 and 30 feet high, broken up by by several right-facing corners/buttresses, and includes face climbing, crack work, and overhangs/roofs, with grades ranging from 5.0 to 5.11.
There is bouldering here, in various spots around the crag are at least 6 or 7 boulders with routes to V7.
College tends to stay a bit damp after rain, and after a heavy day or two of rain, will show noticable seepage and runoff from the various cracks. Also, on humid days the rock can become slick from condensation, since the rock tends to stay cool in it's woodsy locale.
Also, if one's looking for a fun place to head afterwards - Morses Pond is an absolutely lovely area for warm dip in the water (address: 99 Turner Rd, Wellesley, MA or GPS: 42.29723,-71.31436). climb.jlr - 08/Nov/13 |

College Rock is a west-facing, lowland outcrop crag with climbs up to 12m in the middle of the crag (shorter on the ends). The crag has several corner, face and crack climbs with a range of grade (albeit it stiff grades) that make climbers focus on technique, good footwork and balance.
The crag is quite easy to reach, with a car park up to 8 cars or so and a walk-in of about 2 minutes. If the car park is full, parking on the street is okay, just be mindful of neighbors and generally folks park on the west side of the road.
Overwhelmingly, people set up top-ropes on the climbs, and if there's a number of folks climbing, people tend to be friendly and let others climb on the top ropes they've set (and vice versa, climbs you set others climbs). For top-rope set-up, the trees and anchors are typically quite far back (up to 3-4m in some areas), so bring plenty rope/slings for anchoring. climb.jlr - 08/Nov/13 |
