A good sport and bouldering crag with a range of routes especially in the lower grades. Easy approach and a friendly flat base. One of the best crags in proximity to Reykjavík. Rock quality is generally OK, but there are still some loose or snappy holds around. All the routes are well bolted and up to 14m high.
There is also good bouldering along the lower crags closer to the car park area.
Topos of all the boulders and routes can be found at http://www.isalp.is/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Akrafjall-apr%C3%ADl-2019.pdf updated in 2019.
More info on the routes can also be found at https://www.klifur.is/crag/akrafjall
Easiest approach is to turn right onto a gravel track https://www.google.com/maps/place/64%C2%B019'04.3%22N+22%C2%B000'33.6%22W/@64.3178611,-22.011522,453m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d64.3178652!4d-22.0093448 when the cliffs are in view on the right a few km before Akranes town is reached. Space for several cars directly under the crags at Suðursvæði.
For Norðursvæði best to park in the main carpark https://www.google.com/maps/place/64%C2%B019'40.8%22N+21%C2%B059'12.4%22W/@64.328005,-21.988959,453m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d64.3280047!4d-21.9867652 a little further along for Akrafjall hike. Note if there are horses around it is good to park here as the area is roped off and the horses have a taste for cars!
