Edinburgh's pet mountain. The summit is very popular with tourists. The minor crags scattered around its flanks, on the other hand, are not popular with anyone - most local climbers stick to bouldering in the South Quarry of Salisbury Crags. There are many entertaining side paths which often develop into easy scrambles and quickly get away from the crowds.
Probably the best rock is to be found on the central Dassie and at the lower end of the Long Row, where there are many more worthwhile routes than those listed. There is some overlooked bouldering at the base of the right-hand side of Raven's Crag, where it is deceptively undercut.
Climbing is banned except in Salisbury Crags South Quarry where permission is required.
