Rocktype Dolerite
Altitude 400m a.s.l
Faces SW

Crag features

The hill forms the continuation of the dolerite escarpment above Loch Leven. The Dolerite is generally weathered, with a loosely bonded surface. With cleaning & some traffic it improves considerably and is worth the effort.

About 20 climbs have been done on the cliff behind the pinnacle. (Details for additional climbs are being sought).

There are a large number of small & mid-sized boulders across all crag areas which, while requiring significant 'cleaning' to establish, have yielded a number of short but sweet mid-grade boulder problems, in the Font. 5+ to 6b+ range all with an outstanding vista. For those seeking a hike & climb experience Bishop Hill crags offer something a bit different for the day.

Approach notes

Steep but direct access to crags girdling Bishop Hill can be accessed from Kinnesswood. Unrestricted parking on Bruce Road above Portmoak Primary School.

Please park sensibly and respect all local access to homes & property.

Follow FCCT waymarker for the Michael Bruce Way on the first corner of Bishop Terrace. Follow track/path round Scottish Water Compound and through metal gate. Take steps up & follow path directly uphill towards White Craigs above.

To access other outcrops from White Craigs there is a distinct sheep track heading north-west from 3 very obvious boulders just below White Craigs, (NO18250335), by the hill path from Kinnesswood. Follow round for Pinnels, continue on heading for the obvious farm access track where the sheep trod meets at the apex of the final bend below Zig Zags.

For those wanting a less strenuous but longer approach, (circa 40mins),  parking can be found at Scotlandwell Church carpark. (NO183019). Hill paths are shown on an interpretation board in the carpark.

Download-able hill routes/maps can be found on the Fife Coast & Countryside Trust website or the Walkhighlands website covering the Lomond Hills, Fife.

Access Advice

Note - there is a metal electric fence across the sheep trod from Pinnel to Zig Zag et al. Right now. It is low enough to hop over but please take care, it is a quick clip style and not as solid as a wooden stob fence.

16/5/23

There are Ravens nesting above the Big Boi Bloc round at Stothart Row.

Please do not climb Ouvre la Porte while they are in residence. Maybe one problem to consider come the autumn.

Magic Carpet Bloc has had a pretty good scrub, new problems added, no doubt variations & a difficult arete project ready to go, slopey! Evening temps great tonight as crags a bit higher & good breeze too so no midges.

Great views and plenty of potential for many more boulder problems but holds require significant brushing before being usable.
