Crag features

The Bolos are two large ‘lava balls’ each about 10m high. They have some very pleasant easy bolted routes and are suitable for beginners, family groups or those wanting a spot of relaxed holiday climbing. The second bolos has the best quality routes. I visited Bolos two again in Dec 2021 reclimbed several routes and updated the route decriptions,.  It's worth a visit just to experience the unique lava landscape.

Look at the crag photos to see the routes (the lines on the photo-topo for bolos two are not fully accurate, see the updated descriptions)

Approach notes

Head north on the LZ-1 east coast road until it meets the LZ-204 at a T junction on the outskirts of Orzola turn left (signposted Mirador del Rio). The road climbs into the lava fields going fairly straight for 2.7km, then just having gone round a sharp right hand bend look for a dirt track going off left.

Follow the dirt track for 150m and the first bolos is on the right, you can drive right to the bottom of it.

To get to the second bolos continue following the dirt track until there is a chain across it (500m from the road), park here. The bolos is to your left when facing the chain. Follow a path between the walls for 200m to get to it. (see photo)
