Various crags scattered around the hillside opposite Carreg Fran. The main crag is an excellent slice of gently overhanging rhyolite angled up a gully, with a superb picnic plinth opposite, and provides shortish but intensely sustained wall climbing. Other craglets have varied climbs. The views are typically excellent.
Information is from www.midwalesclimbing.com , the stars are estimates.
The approach is not nearly as bad as it looks from the road. Park on the layby near Carreg Fran, cross an initial bog and streams, then contour very reasonably on grass towards the main crag. The last section is a short sting in the tail over some mobile boulder scree and steep heather.
Swsi Face is gained from the top of the crag gully and dropping down. The Red Walls are gained from partway along the contouring. The Prince Wall is gained direct from the parking below it.
Some great esoteric climbing on mostly ok rock. All the stars are probably a bit generous but crag locations dont come much better. Worth a days exploration james.slater - 31/May/21 |
