Bouldering Felbertauern © Stefan Koechel

Crag features

Surrounded by the Hohe Tauern is the Boulder area Felbertauern. Directly at the northern portal of the Felbertauern tunnel, is the starting point for the sub-region "Valley of Water". The blocs are free on a grassy ground, embedded in a beautiful mountain scenery. In addition to the wonderful location, the area offers technically challenging problems on super rock. After snowy winters some boulders maybe standing in a few centimeters of water in the early summer. Only the noise of the nearby, busy street may disturb some. The sector Wald (forest) is hardly known, however, offers a series of very beautiful lines in all levels of difficulty.

Approach notes

From Innsbruck continue towards Germany, leave the A12 motorway at the exit ‘Kufstein Süd’ and continue towards Mittersill. At Mittelsill follow the Felbertauern Str. (B 108) to the parking area Elisabethensee (on the right) or continue to the big parking area at the Nordportal. From the Elisabethsee parking area it takes just 5mins to reach the first boulders in the Wald Sector or, walking in the other direction, the Heidnische Kapelle. The Tal des Wassers Sector can be reached from the Nordportal parking area in around 20mins.
