Luxulyan Quarry © Tom Last
A large quarry with some impressive walls, some of the rock is very rotten and some not so.
The base is like, well it’s a jungle. Most of the starts of the routes are accessible. If not like one local has said "bring a machete and an Elephant Gun”.
In spite of all this, this IS a quality venue, think crimppy 1980's style training venue ("Didnt know much about training so we just crimpped and cranked our way through it"). At its best in the late winter and spring time. A good intro for other esoteric classics (Lost World?).
From Luxulyan head through the valley under the aqueduct after about 2 min's you’ll pass through some tight corners and past a couple of houses. Go under an old metal bridge, directly on the left is a small track, park in the tiny layby just after it.
The track leads to the railway and is in use so please don’t block it.
Follow a small path down next to the railway the quarry is on the right. Wellies are of use at wetter times of the year.
There is a track which leads up around the eastern rim towards Will Luke’s Hat which gives access to multiple trees to abseil in if this is preferable eg cleaning or inspecting???.
|Take some wellies for the approach.
