Spot the line! Dike Route, Pywiack Dome © Grahame N
Pywiack Dome has a few classic climbs, but the crag's main appeal is the short approach coupled with beautiful views of Tenaya Lake. This tends to be a busy crag, especially for Zee Tree and Aqua Knobby. If you drive by and see people queued up, then just continue driving to another crag.
Best time to climb: June - October
Safety warning: Beware of afternoon storms.
Park in the large pullout along hwy 120 near the dome and follow dirt trails to the crag. Many of the climbs involve some 3rd-4th class approaches on slab and are not obvious.
Descent: Two options.
(1) From the summit, head to the NE corner and look for rappel rings. Getting to this location involves a small amount of downclimbing but nothing too serious. Rap down 40ft and walk around the dome and back towards the road.
(2) From pitch 4 of the Dike route, rap down with two 60m or one 70m rope.
