Approach- From Bala, head north on the A4212 and, after one mile, turn left for Rhyd-Uchaf on a minor road. Follow this for 7.5miles to the Dwr Cymru road gate which appears on the left shortly before Arennig village, there is a small amount of parking on the roadside verge here. Additional parking can be found further along the road near the Daea Fawr Quarry.

To approach Simdde Ddu follow the reservoir track, it is recommended to follow the track and cross the river by the Dam, and approach the crag from the South, tracks from the Northern side are almost non- existant.

As a lot of people have already mentioned; the best approach is to continue along the track, as far as the end passing the dam and the bothy. Then continue contouring the lake by the shore along a good sheep track. Follow this all the way round, where the sheep track veers away from the lake on to very boggy ground (and towards the minor crag with e2-e5 routes) continue contouring faint sheep track heading for the end of the big spur and nearly and island, crossing a small stream and through bracken and damp ground (still by the lake). When you get to the spur, stay just out of the bog, contouring the spur, passing a small fallen down hafod. Follow the sheep path along and then right up on to a col on top of the spur. From here aim straight for the crag, in the direction on a big square heather topped boulder (sheep paths, dry). Then pass another big boulder and continue up on to the scree. Climb the scree to the base of the crag. 1hr?
