Crag features

Sector A contains a mixture of problems from 5+ to 7c. Some serious highballs and many less committing, fun problems. On mainly good quality rock with flat landing.

Now that many of the trees around the boulders have been felled, the rock dries fairly quickly although it is North facing and gets very little sun. This is more a Spring/Summer venue.

Below is the pdf for Simonside Escarpment compiled by Steve Blake who's other miniguides are available on The Quiet County Facebook page:

Approach notes

There are two ways to approach Sector A.

1. The normal approach to Ravenshaugh but at the fence/style turn right down a path through the heather doubling back on yourself until you see rock. You are on the top tier of 3.

2. Take the forestry path right out of the main carpark. Follow this to a junction (red road meets white road). Take the right fork (white road) past a mast on your right. Follow this downhill to another fork. Take a left. Follow this past A Bigger Berry area on your left. Keep going until the road ends very abruptly. Walk under a leaning birch tree and Follow the track. After a few more minutes you'll be below Sector A.

Both walks take about the same time. The second passes more climbing though.

No Access Issues

No access issues but be aware of felling operations and storm damage clear up. The 2 main carparks are currently closed for this reason.
