Skalia is a large area and includes the sub-sectors Skalia Pillar, Hotel California, Skalia Balcony and Skalia Cave, with a wide variety of routes in a sunny setting.
Skalia Pillar is approached from a bend on the 'new' road to Palionisos - park by the extensive goat enclosures. Go through the gate, down the track to the end of the enclosures, then head across the hillside to the crag.
Skalia Balcony and Cave are approached from parking just north of the track that leads to Ghost Kitchen. A track then a decent footpath leads to the cliffs, left for the Balcony, straight on for the Cave.
Walking Time: 15-20mins
The large gate on the approach from the 'new' road to Palionisos now has a lock and sign saying no trespassing, the other approach should be used.
Skalia Pillar now (Oct '17) approached from below. About 300m after the Ghost Kitchen parking and just as you enter Skalia village is an apartment block called "Maria's". Walk up the side of this (new white concrete post marks the start point) and head directly up rough ground to the pillar (25mins). Or follow path 50 m after Ghost Kitchen parking (as described in Guide) to Skalia Balcony, then traverse to the Pillar (35mins). lionel - 06/Nov/17 |
