A great little convenient crag for soloing. Most of the routes are VS with 5 HVS's, 1 E1 and 1 E4. The average height of the crag is 7 metres. The condition of the rock is good and mostly clean.
3 miles north of Kirkwhelpington on the A696. After passing the crossroads at Knowesgate, drive for a few minutes until you see a gate to a track on the east side of the road. Park by the gate, off the road. The crag is very visible from the road if driving south. Walk along the track for 3 minutes until you see a burnt-out Reliant Robin (possibly), then cut across scrubland towards the crag for another 3 minutes. There is CRoW access and the land is marked as access land on OS maps.
Pretty much the top three blocks making up the 'Jelly and Cream' Buttress move when stood on top. It is not just the top boulder. Everything to the right of the 'Fruit Salad' crack as can be seen in this picture https://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=280344. MJAngry - 10/Apr/17 |
