Festival to celebrate 'best ever' Cheddar climbing regime

A major climbing festival at Cheddar Caves & Gorge will raise money for charity and celebrate the successful first year of a new climbing regime, which has seen 300 climbs restored and the season lengthened into the summer months.

Cheddar Caves Crag AttaK will take place at High Rock in the Gorge on Sunday 01 July, and climbers are invited to enrol for the following events:

  • The record-breaking largest-ever first ascent of a new climb
  • An open speed climb
  • An 'unclimbable climb' challenge
  • The weirdest and wackiest ascent ever (fancy dress and fancy behaviour!)
  • A fit volunteer is needed for a record-breaking continuous climb challenge (possibly 36 hours). There will be demo climbs on some of the restored crags, and a 'name that climb' competition, while a new invitation-only endurance circuit will feature six challenging activities.

All this will add up to a day of thrills, laughs, satisfaction and enjoyment for participants, supporters and spectators. Food and drink will be available throughout the day, and the event will gradually segue into a party for the climbing community to celebrate the end of the spring climbing season in Cheddar Gorge.

Crag AttaK will enable climbers to help local children with life-limiting illnesses. It is a condition of taking part in Crag AttaK that all participants arrange sponsorship or make a direct contribution to Children's Hospice South West.

How's this going to work - People crawling over each other to get up the route and everyone has to lunge for the finishing hold at the same time ?

That sounds so much fun. I wish Cheddar was nearer Leeds. I especially like the sound of this bit: # The weirdest and wackiest ascent ever (fancy dress and fancy behaviour!) # A fit volunteer is needed for a record-breaking continuous climb challenge (possibly 36 hours). I want to be the fit volunteer!
