Petzl RocTrip China 2011: The official movieVideo

Last autumn, from October 26-30, more than 600 climbers from all corners of the globe gathered for the Petzl RocTrip China in the Getu River Valley, Guizhou province in Southwest China. Everyone who was there discovered and enjoyed more than 250 brand new pitches on amazing limestone especially prepared for the event.

Petzl RocTrip China was the 10th Petzl RocTrip whose aims are to bring together local climbers and Petzl athletes in a celebration and festival of climbing.

During two years of preparation Petzl supplied over 5,000 bolts to help develop the climbing in the area and maneuvered their way through the frustrating Chinese bureaucracy and understandable cultural difference to make this event the most successful RocTrip ever.

Special thanks must go to Erwan Le Lann - the event and athlete mananger for Petzl France - , Olivier Balma and the Chinese Mountain Development Institute (CMDI) and Laurent Lafouche of Petzl, as well as all the Dream Drill Team who established most of the routes, including Andy Long and Gavin Symonds from the UK (check out their routes at the Fish Crag - quality!).

But the biggest thanks must go to the local Miao farmers who collaborated closely with Petzl to make this event happen on their land and who made everyone welcome, they will welcome you too.

This 23 minute video, filmed by Vladimir Cellier, Julien Nadiras, Bertrand Delapierre and Guillaume Broust and edited by Baraka Flims, documents the trip and highlights both the cultural exchange that took place as well as the superb climbing.

Highlights include the local Spiderman of Getu who climb barefooted and without ropes, Dani Andrada's first ascent of the extremely difficult 7-pitch Corazon de Ensueno (8c/5.14b), Steph Bodet and Arnaud Petit sending their project, Lost in Translation (8a+/5.13c), Gabriele Moroni's first ascent of Coup de Bambou (9a/5.14d), as well as the stunning scenery of the area and the local people who live in this special area.

We will have details of this years Petzl RocTrip soon, including a national competition for UK climbers, the prize being an all expenses paid place on this years Petzl RocTrip. Stay tuned.

Sit back and enjoy and a huge thanks to all at Petzl and in the UK, all at Lyon Equipment.

If you can, watch this video in full screen and hook up to some decent speakers.

I had to fast forward through all the car/city scenes at the start, but the rest is great. The Dani Andrada route looks utterly mind blowing.

I thought that was one of the strongest parts of the video. It's nice to see a bit of the country and culture too. Climbing is incredible.
