These are great days for climbing in general and women's climbing in particular. Last week, Michaela Kiersch repeated no less than three 8c+'s in the Red River Gorge, Kentucky: 24 Karats of Gold, Southern Smoke and 50 words for Pump!

Her instagram posts tell the story in few words:

  • 24 Karats of Gold (5.14c/8c+) So excited to finally put this one away!!!
  • Ummm I just did Southern Smoke 5.14c!!!!
  • Just sent 50 Words for Pump (5.14c) in 4 tries!!!!

Michaela has previously repeated Pure imagination, Lucifer and The Golden Ticket all 8c+ and all in the Red River Gorge, so there can't be many of the grade left there for her to climb, can it?

In this year's US Bouldering Open National Championships, Michaela placed 4th in a very strong field.

Amazing effort. After watching the vid of her on The Golden Ticket I'm guessing her diminutive stature on that huge dyno might well push the grade up a notch to 9a for her. Time wise it certainly seemed to take her a good bit longer than these 8c+s. A very inspiring climber.
